Wewahitchka Band at the 2025 Sound of the South Music Leadership Camp

This past week, we took 14 students to the 2025 Sound of the South Music Leadership Camp at Troy University. It was a fantastic experience for the students to learn valuable music and leadership skills that they can bring back to our band.

The camp was divided into six different groups: Drum Line, Majorettes, Dance Line, Color Guard, Drum Major, and Concert Band. Among our 14 participants, we had three drummers: Senior Christian Johnson, Freshman Waylon Whitfield, and 8th Grader Natalie Brown. Additionally, we had ten Concert Band members: Seniors- Fenix Morgan, Amiyah Rose, Wyatt Linton, and Emmons Crawley; Juniors- Jackson Cherry and Shylah Helms; Freshmen Juliana Nunery and Spencer Tucker; and 8th Graders- Myleigh Pitts and Joseph Whitfield. We also brought our 2025-26 Drum Major, Junior Karsen Bevans.

We arrived in Troy on Sunday and left on Thursday. During our stay, students attended classes from 8:30 AM to 8:15 PM. Each day concluded with a fun activity, including a Talent Show, Band Olympics, and an afternoon at Camp Butter and Egg, where students enjoyed ziplining, paddle boating, and playing laser tag (I lost every time). On Thursday, the students showcased everything they had learned throughout the week in a performance.

We are delighted that the students had this opportunity, and on their behalf, I would like to thank everyone who donated to the band and sponsored a student to attend the camp. Below I have attached just three videos from the Performance on Thursday.
